In 1977, Merck was finally organized into a separate corporate entity after four years of very encouraging sales growth. The corporation was called E. Merck Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Promotions of imported finished pharmaceutical products remained the principal business of Merck until October 1979 when Interphil Laboratories, Inc. started manufacturing pharmaceutical preparations for Merck.
On June 29, 1981, the Securities and Exchange Commission approved the change of name from E. Merck Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to Merck, Inc.
In July 1981, Merck Inc. established its Chemical Division to handle the indent sales of chemical specialty products. In 1986, the Board of Investments in the Philippines approved the expansion of Merck into the ex-stock business by allowing it to import in finished form and to sell locally selected Merck chemical products consisting of diagnostics, reagents and chemicals.
Merck, Inc. is committed not only to continuously provide quality laboratory, chemical and pharmaceutical products and services to its customers but also endeavors to find better ways to satisfy customer expectations.
To fulfill this commitment, Merck, Inc. has modeled her Quality Management System to the requirements of ISO 9001. In July 1, 2003, Certification International, Philippines, Inc. certified that Merck, Inc. operates a quality management system that is conforming to ISO 9001:2000 requirements.
In January 2006, Merck, Inc. upgraded its management system and was granted certification against the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:1999.
Through this integrated management system we hope to provide additional assurance that while providing customer satisfaction through the quality of our goods and services, Merck, Inc. is able to do so without adverse effects on the Company’s environment and on the health and safety of its employees.
